Daniel L. Silver, PhD, CIM is the founder and President of CogNova Technologies.  He has over 20 years of experience in information technology and business administration.  His previous duties have included research, teaching, systems analysis, architectural design and project management.  He has a strong background in technical support, as well as tactical and strategic technology planning.

Dr. Silver is a professor in the Jodrey School of Computer Science, Acadia University and an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University, where he is active in the areas of data mining, machine learning, and knowledge management.   His current research is focused on advanced neural networks, user modelling and adaptive systems and the development of knowledge discovery and knowledge management methods. He has presented material and participated in workshops at several international conferences on knowledge discovery, machine learning and medicine and has papers published in associated journals.

Prior to his appointment at Acadia he held a position as Research Associate to the Killam Chair in Business Informatics in the School of Business, Dalhousie University.  He was responsible for research, promotion, education and application of knowledge discovery and data mining methods and technologies to problems in business and industry, most specifically with Maritime Tel & Tel and Nova Scotia Power Corporation. 

In January, 1993, Dr. Silver started Cognova Technologies, in London, Ontario and since that time has worked on projects in the private and public sector providing situation analysis and problem definition, data mining services, due diligence, project guidance, and trouble shooting.

Alex J. Mair, BSc is an associate to CogNova Technologies and the founder and President of AJM Business Solutions. A results and goal oriented Management Consultant, Senior Architect and Project Manager, Mr. Mair has extensive experience and skills in building relationships, gaining organizational consensus, team building and leveraging technology to deliver value to the business.  With a passion for delivering business benefits and exceeding customer service, Mr. Mair has provided strategic Business Intelligence consulting and advice to many executives of both private and public sector organizations.  This advice has enabled decision-making and productivity solutions, impacting the organization’s bottom line, through either increased performance and productivity or reduced costs and improved customer service. Mr. Mairs experience and expertise includes:

Ray MacNeil, MSc is an associate to CogNova Technologies and a partner of netMetrics, an on-line survey and market research firm.  He has a background in experimental design and survey research as well as experience in Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining tools (neural networks, decision trees, OLAP, statistical packages) and techniques (CRISP).

Mr. MacNeil's recent data mining activities have included work in education (identification and modeling of secondary school drop-outs), budget forecasting in the healthcare sector and research in pharmaceuticals and healthcare.   He has remained an active publisher and presenter of material concerning knowledge management and data mining and is on the editorial review board of the Electronic Journal of Gambling Studies.
